What to expect at The Astor Place Theatre

The Astor Place Theatre is in Manhattan’s NoHo neighborhood. This leafy area is a far cry from the skyscrapers of midtown, surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and other Off-Broadway venues like the Public Theater. Nearby areas include the ever-trendy SoHo, Greenwich Village, and East Village. It’s easily accessible from anywhere in New York City via public transportation.

On your trip to the Astor Place Theatre, please leave plenty of time for travel, security screenings, and finding your seat before the performance. Theater doors usually open 30 minutes before show time. If you’re in a group, please plan to arrive even earlier.

Once you’re inside, there are some important things to know about the Blue Man Group performances. First, expect the unexpected. These shows are unlike any other. They showcase art, music, comedy, and non-verbal scenes, running for approximately 90 to 105 minutes with no intermission. The front seats are known as “the poncho section,” where disposable plastic ponchos are provided to protect against washable materials that may splatter from the stage.

During your visit, snacks and beverages are available for purchase in the lobby. If you are sensitive to strobe lights, please inform the House Manager upon arrival. There is no specific dress code. However, casual, comfortable clothing is recommended — especially if you’re sitting in the poncho area!
